The holidays are a wonderful time of year to take a little extra time to think about how to give back to your local community, and though some things are out of the ordinary, this year is no exception! With the holidays approaching quickly, we have a list of a couple of local ways to volunteer safely, largely from the comfort of your own home.
Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank

The Agua Fria Food & Clothing Bank is always accepting donations of food, clothing, and hygiene products, so it’s a good option year-round! They’re located at 405 East Harrison Drive in Avondale, Arizona, they accept food and clothing donations Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. There’s more information at the link above, including a list of their most-needed items for donation!
United Nations Online Volunteering
The United Nations offers an online volunteering program, which is easy and effective, accessible from anywhere and on any device with access to the internet. Their volunteer program strives to “contribute to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide,” and they’re consistently accepting new volunteers! They strive towards sustainable development goals, and provide more information, including the link to sign up to be one of their volunteers, at the link above.
Pillow for Kiddos needs volunteers to help create pillows for every kindergartner in the Pendergast Elementary School District, in Avondale, Phoenix, and Tolleson! They want the volunteers to cut fabric and sew pillows with a pocket that will then hold a book for the kids. The sewing can be done off-site, so in your own home! If you’re handy with a needle and thread, this is a great way to give back very locally, and help make some kids happy.
With the upcoming holidays, we’re wishing you warmth and light! If you do end up volunteering, at any of these suggestions or others, we’d love to hear about how you’ve given back to the community in the comments.
