Holiday Happenings in Goodyear You Won’t Want to Miss-image

The holidays are finally here in Goodyear! ‘Tis the season for Thanksgiving dinners, Black Friday deals, Christmas shopping, and ringing in the new year! With holiday festivities in full swing, here are a few events and happenings in and around town that will make you want to deck the halls and sing Christmas carols all month long.   The Wigwam Resort Tree Lighting and Holiday Nights in Lights (Nov. 29 and Friday’s in December)   There’s nothing quite like Christmas tree lighting ceremonies to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, and The Wigwam Resort knows just how to ignite those festive feelings. The resort’s tree lighting on November 29 kicks off the holiday season with twinkling lights and ornaments strung around a 42-foot-tall Christmas tree. Along with the lighting, there will be musical performances and even a visit from Santa himself for you to snap the perfect selfie with and outline your Christmas wish list. In addition to the tree lighting, on Friday evenings throughout December you can enjoy a festive train ride and make s’mores around a fire on the Wigwam Resort front lawn, all while admiring the beautiful holiday lights. A truly festive evening that makes for a perfect Christmas tradition.    Christmas in the Park Festival    The Litchfield Park Christmas Festival is what holiday dreams are made of. Imagine a place with real snow (don’t ask us how), arts and crafts holiday vendors, a hometown parade and decorated floats… and on top of it all, is free and just a short distance from your home at Estrella Commons! That’s what you can expect at the Christmas in the Park Festival. And once you’ve browsed through all of the vendors and want some free entertainment while you relax with a cup of hot cocoa, there will be live stage acts until 4 p.m.    Goodyear Glows at the Goodyear Ballpark  (Dec. 7)    This holiday event is a true home run! Each year the Goodyear Ballpark transforms into a magical winter wonderland for the Goodyear Glows holiday event. Not only will you get to experience the annual lighting of the City of Goodyear Christmas tree, you’ll feel like you’ve traveled all the way to the North Pole. Pictures with Santa, holiday music ringing throughout the park... and did we mention the 40 tons of snow? (It's fake snow, but still). Goodyear Glows is pretty much a hometown Christmas miracle, where you can play in the snow, snap some instagram-worthy photos, and feel the magic of the holidays all around you.  Throughout the end of the year, Goodyear is filled with the holiday spirit. Nearly every weekend has something festive going on, and these are just a few of the Christmas traditions we think you won’t want to miss out on! Take a Trip Through History at these Museums near Goodyear-image

A day at the museum is a day immersed in history! Unlike other outings, such as grabbing a cup of coffee, watching a movie or going out for dinner, an afternoon spent at the museum is entertainment that is educational and inspiring. Plus, you’re more than likely to learn something new, and it’s always a great day when you learn something new! One of the best parts of Goodyear being neighbors with Phoenix is the fact that we can experience both the smaller, more intimate museums, while also being able to explore some of the larger ones in the area! So here are a few museums for the next time you want to time travel into the depths of history, while still being able to make it home for dinner.   Litchfield Park Historical Society Museum | 13912 W Camelback Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340   Founded in the early 2000s, the Litchfield Park Historical Society started with a small bunch of community members who had a common interest in collecting artifacts from Litchfield Park’s earliest history. The LPHS museum opened nearly 11 years later, in October of 2012. While the museum may only be roughly 7 years old, the over 4,000 artifacts, stories, and photographs inside date back decades. The small-town museum is located in part of the Rancho La Loma estate, which according to the museum website, was built by Paul Weeks Litchfield, hence, the museum name! Be sure to check the website or call ahead before planning your visit to the museum as there are unique winter hours.    West Valley Art Museum | 8401 W Monroe St, Peoria, AZ 85345   When it comes to museums, the variety of topics is seemingly endless. There are history-centric museums, art museums, trash museums, you name it! And the beautiful thing about all of these is that even if the theme of the museum may seem universal, such as an art museum, they are all a little different in their own ways. For example, the West Valley Art Museum sets itself apart with special events, art workshops, unique exhibits and a diverse display of arts. What started as a “museum without walls” , where the founders would display art in local banks and churches, eventually grew to the masterpiece that it is today, boasting a permanent collection of over 1,600 items, and a variety of high-quality art from over 60 countries. Channel your inner artists with a day at the West Valley Art Museum!   Buckeye Valley Museum | 116 E. MC 85, Buckeye, AZ 85326   Another museum that is small in scale but large in rich history is the Buckeye Valley Museum . With an in-depth focus on local Buckeye history, this museum is full of historic photographs, local artifacts, and pre-Columbian pottery that when you see it will make you feel as though you are right there in the earliest days of the Buckeye Valley. Established in 1954, the museum itself has a long history, where most recently the city of Buckeye took the reins and conducted a major remodel of the museum. So the next time you want to learn a little more about the history of our friendly neighbors in Buckeye, visit the museum and get to know the town just a little better!  A fulfilling life is one where you never stop learning; where your mind continues to wander and you feed your soul with the history that makes up what we have today. Take a day, or even just an afternoon, to go learn something new and you’ll feel better for it! Let us know about your museum adventures on Facebook and Instagram , and keep following the blog here for more hometown favorites.

Whether you like dark roasts, blonde roasts or something in between, these Goodyear coffee shops have got the beans and brew for you!   Enroute Coffee & Tea House | 15605 W Roosevelt St #107 Goodyear, AZ     The folks over at Enroute Coffee have a simple, straightforward approach to coffee: a good cup of coffee is personal. Personal is exactly how caffeine is approached at Enroute in the West Valley. Owners, Brittany and Deni have made it their mission to craft high quality coffee with integrity. Expect a far more genuine interaction than at your local Dutch Bros or Einstein Bros at Enroute. Their motto, “Enter as a stranger, leave as a friend,”  rings true no matter what kind of drink you order. That said, if you’re looking for a little order inspiration, we recommend a shot of their speciality espresso, made with Union Coffee beans, or a cup of delicious Raspberry Hibiscus herbal loose leaf tea. For a coffee-free caffeinated alternative, try out their Lotus drink--a plant-based energy drink comprised of superfood botanicals combined with their house-made fruit elixirs. While beverages are their forte, Enroute also offers delicious baked treats. This is not your average spot for crepes and coffee. Enroute's offers local, artisanal eats from The Boyer Bakery , Hope's Artisan Bread , and Nora's Macarons ! Enjoy their outdoor seating and drop by this local West Valley coffee haven for a spectacular mocha, drip coffee, or espresso!  Ground Control   | 4860 N Litchfield Rd, Litchfield Park, AZ 85340     Ground Control is a unique, local spot for fine wine, locally roasted coffee, and great grub! Initially founded in Goodyear AZ in 2007, Ground Control moved to their current location on Litchfield rd in Litchfield Park to expand their culinary program, carving out a space for themselves as a serious American restaurant. As a roaster and coffee shop, the baristas at Ground Control are not only friendly, but also incredibly knowledgeable about the coffee roasting and brewing processes. For a unique beverage experience, try out their Roma, an espresso drink with dark chocolate, caramel, and pralines. They also make a great french press that goes well with one of their breakfast sandwiches. If you're feeling sleepy, their cold brewed iced coffee packs a punch! To sweeten the deal, they also offer a salted caramel cold brew that is one of the tastiest coffee drinks in town! For a non-coffee alternative, sip a tropical coconut loose leaf tea in their outdoor seating area. Find a full list of their coffee and tea menu here !   Skip dutch bros coffee and einstein bros bagels this morning and head to one of these locally-owned Goodyear gems for coffee and tea instead!
